Manganese EDTA 12% provides manganese in stable chelated form for correction of Mn deficiency in alkaline and calcareous soils. Manganese plays a unique and irreplaceable role in the photosynthetic water-splitting reaction (Mnโ-cluster in Photosystem II) โ the first step in converting solar energy to chemical energy in all green plants.
Manganese is also essential for carbohydrate metabolism (activates decarboxylase enzymes), nitrogen assimilation (activates nitrate reductase) and disease resistance (lignin biosynthesis). Deficiency causes grey speck in oats, speckled yellows in beet, marsh spot in peas and interveinal chlorosis in many crops on neutral-alkaline soils.
EDTA chelation maintains manganese availability at soil pH 6โ11, where unchelated Mnยฒโบ would be oxidized to Mnโดโบ (insoluble MnOโ) by soil microorganisms.
