Fruit Borer in Pomegranate

Common Causes

• Anar butterfly (Virachola isocrates) — most serious pomegranate pest
• Fruit sucking moth — adult moth sucks ripening fruit
• Mealybugs — cluster at fruit base

Treatment

Anar butterfly: Chlorantraniliprole 0.3mL/L at fruit set. Spray young fruits weekly. Bag fruits with paper bags. Fruit sucking moth: Secure nets around orchard.

Prevention

Fruit bagging at pea size stage is most effective. Remove alternate hosts. Pheromone traps for butterfly.
