Brown Spots / Leaf Spots in Rice

Common Causes

• Brown spot (Helminthosporium oryzae) — oval brown lesions
• Narrow brown leaf spot (Cercospora)
• Blast (Pyricularia) — diamond-shaped lesions with grey centre

Treatment

Brown spot: Mancozeb 2.5g/L. Blast: Tricyclazole 75% WP 0.6g/L at boot leaf stage. Fungicide at panicle emergence critical.

Prevention

Silicon fertilizer (Potassium Silicate 2g/L) increases blast resistance. Balanced N — not excess.
