Yellowing between leaf veins (interveinal chlorosis) starting on youngest leaves. Leaves turn pale yellow to white while veins stay green. Severe: entire leaf yellows. Called "lime-induced chlorosis" in calcareous soils.
Iron becomes unavailable above pH 7.5. Very common in Maharashtra black cotton soils (pH 8+), calcareous soils, over-irrigated fields. High phosphorus or manganese can also cause iron deficiency.
