Complete NPK Fertigation Schedule for Grapes — Nashik Maharashtra

By Green Vision Technical Services · 2026-05-12 · Nashik, Maharashtra

Nashik district accounts for over 80% of India's table grape exports. Getting the fertigation schedule right is the difference between A-grade export quality and local market rejection. This guide covers the complete stage-wise program from dormancy through harvest.

📍 Applies to: Thompson Seedless, Flame Seedless, Sonaka, 2A Clone, Sharad Seedless on black cotton soil pH 7.8–8.5, drip irrigated, Nashik / Sangli / Solapur region.

Stage 1 — Bahar Treatment and Soil Preparation

Timing: October–November (for Rabi/winter crop)

⚠ Do NOT apply urea or nitrogen at bahar preparation — this forces vegetative growth and delays bud differentiation.

Stage 2 — Bud Break to 4-Leaf (November–December)

This is the most critical nitrogen window. Vines are building shoot framework — adequate N here determines canopy density for the season.

WeekProductRate (kg/acre)Notes
Week 1 (bud break)NPK 19:19:193Balanced start
Week 2Calcium Nitrate3Ca builds cell walls
Week 3NPK 19:19:193Continue vegetative push
Week 4 (4-leaf)Urea 46%5N for shoot elongation

Foliar at 2-leaf stage: Zinc EDTA 12% at 0.5 g/L + Iron DTPA 11% at 2 g/L. This prevents early season micronutrient deficiency before root uptake is fully active.

Stage 3 — Berry Set and Sizing (January–February)

Shift from N-dominant to Ca+K dominant. Calcium builds berry cell walls — critical for preventing cracking and improving shelf life for export.

Stage 4 — Colour Development / Veraison (March)

Potassium drives sugar translocation, colour development and berry weight gain. Reduce N to zero.

Stop all nitrogen from veraison onwards. Late N delays colour, reduces sugar Brix, and causes poor post-harvest quality.

Stage 5 — Pre-Harvest (2–3 weeks before cutting)

5 Common Mistakes in Grape Fertigation

  1. Over-applying nitrogen at sizing — causes excessive vegetative growth, berry cracking, delays colour
  2. Skipping calcium — the #1 cause of cracking and export rejection
  3. Using MOP instead of SOP at sizing/harvest — chloride in MOP affects flavour and post-harvest life
  4. Ignoring iron EDDHA at bahar — iron chlorosis wipes out shoot growth and yield in next stage
  5. Applying boron late — boron must be applied at berry set for effect, not after cracking starts
